CARMEL – The Warsaw Tigers golf team wrapped up its opening round of the state championship at Prairie View golf course Tuesday, and has plenty to be happy about with the results. The Tigers finished the day with a team score of 319 after 18 holes, twenty strokes behind the leaders, Guerin Catholic.

Warsaw is still very much alive for a podium spot when action wraps up Wednesday. The Tigers sit eight strokes behind fourth place Hamilton Southeastern. It was Warsaw’s usual leaders who stepped up for the team, with Cal Hoskins and Aidan Bowell both pacing the team by shooting 77s. Jaxson Gould shot an 81, followed by Ben Brander and Jack Yeager with an 84 and 86.

Also competing in the state championship is Manchester’s Owen Kruschwitz, who advanced as an individual at both the regional and sectional after the Squires were eliminated. Kruschwitz currently sits tied for 48th place after shooting an 81 on Tuesday. Hoskins and Bowell are currently tied for 22nd after their 77 in round one. The top ten individuals are honored on the podium.

The state tournament will wrap up Wednesday morning from Prairie View.
