High School Sports Recaps For 4/23 & 4/22

Warsaw at Leo
LEO-CEDARVILLE – Warsaw capped off a busy weekend with a doubleheader at Leo Saturday, splitting the two games. The Tigers lost the opening game of the day 13-8 before bouncing back to take the second contest 8-7. Warsaw is now 4-2.
In the game two win, the Tigers tallied nine hits, headlined by Lukas Maier’s home run in the third inning. With the game tied in the top of the seventh, Hunter Dippon drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the winning run. Getting the win for Warsaw was Josh Reihl, who pitched 4.2 scoreless innings of relief.
Friday night, Warsaw picked up a rivalry win against Plymouth, coming out on top 3-1 in the conference matchup.
The Tigers play their next game Monday against NorthWood.
Churubusco at Manchester
NORTH MANCHESTER – Manchester came out on top of a battle of the bats Saturday morning, defeating Churubusco 18-17. The Squires are now 2-4 this spring.
Leading 16-9 going into the seventh inning, Manchester conceding eight runs in the top of the frame. They would score two in the bottom half to walk it off. Manchester’s offense was highlighted by an eight run third inning.
The Squires next game is Monday, when Northfield travels to North Manchester.
Triton at Pioneer
ROYAL CENTER – Triton came away winless after a conference doubleheader with Pioneer Saturday, losing 10-0 and 17-6. The Trojans are now 0-8 this season, 0-4 in the Hoosier North.
Zak Greer scored two runs and drove in one in game two. Joey Borntrager led the team with two hits.
Triton plays its next game Monday against Bethany Christian.
Whitko at Lakeland
LAGRANGE – Whitko moved back to .500 with a convincing 10-1 win over Lakeland Friday night. The Wildcats are now 4-4 this season.
Breyden Kirkdorffer had two hits, including a double, driving in two runs in the process. Riley Harman and Isaiah Cripe also had two hits. Max Platt got the win for the Wildcats, striking out five while giving up no earned runs in five innings.
Whitko takes on Peru Monday night.
Softball
Leo at Wawasee
SYRACUSE – Wawasee was on the wrong side of a nonconference blowout Saturday, losing 16-0 to Leo in five innings. The Warriors are now 4-5 this season.
Elizabeth Miller had the lone Wawasee hit.
On Friday night, the Warriors picked up an 11-10 conference win over NorthWood. Haylee Allen had a home run and drove in two runs. Arisai Garcia had two hits and drove in three.
Next up for the Warriors is a home game against Northridge Monday.
Tippecanoe Valley at Adams Central
MONROE – Tippecanoe Valley won the opener 7-2 but then had its four game winning streak snapped Saturday in an 8-5 loss in the second half of a doubleheader to Adams Central. The Lady Vikings are now 8-2.
In the victory, Tippy Valley attacked from all across the board, with five players registering RBIs. MacKaylie Costello led all hitters with three hits, a triple and an RBI.
Tippecanoe Valley hosts Rochester Monday.
Manchester at Columbia City
COLUMBIA CITY – It was a tough Saturday for Manchester, as the team was held scoreless in 15-0 and 11-0 losses to Columbia City in a doubleheader. The Lady Squires are now 1-7.
Manchester has a home game against Northfield Monday.
Central Noble at Whitko
SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko picked up a nonconference victory over Central Noble Friday night, winning 9-8. The Lady ‘Cats record is now 2-3.
Whitko plays its next game Tuesday against Huntington North.

Wawasee/Whitko/Manchester at Turtle Town Classic
CHURUBUSCO – In a meet consisting of 24 schools, some local athletes delivered some big performances at the Turtle Town Classic Saturday.
For Wawasee, Emma Yoder broke a 42-year-old school record for discus with a throw of 126’9”. Whitko’s Gwen Howard came in first place for the shot put, as well as second for the 400m.
Boys Golf
Warsaw at Lake Central Classic
DE MOTTE – Warsaw finished in eighth place out of 18 at the Lake Central Classic at Sandy Pines Golf Course Saturday. The Tigers had a team score of 330, just two away from seventh place Chesterton.
Ben Brander shot a 79 for Warsaw, edging out teammate Cal Hoskins by one stroke for the best mark on the team. Lewis Turley shot an 84.
Girls Tennis
Tippecanoe Valley at Bremen Invitational
BREMEN – Tippecanoe Valley finished in fourth place at the Bremen Invitational Saturday after an 0-3 day.
After losing 5-0 to NorthWood in the first round and 4-1 to John Glenn in the second, the Lady Vikings fell to Bremen 4-1 in the final round. The doubles team of Ella Sandbakken and Nataly Rodriguez picked up a win.
Wawasee at Wawasee Inviational
SYRACUSE – Wawasee had a strong showing at its home tournament Saturday, coming in second place and going 2-1.
Wawasee opened up play with a 3-2 victory over Prairie Heights. Kiah Farrington was dominant in her #1 singles match, winning 6-0, 6-0. She would do the same in her next match against Southwood, which the Warriors won 5-0.
Playing Columbia City in the championship, Wawasee was able to win two singles matches, one by Farrington and another by Kaitlyn Jackson. But the Eagles took both doubles matches as well as one singles match to take the victory.
