WARSAW – The Warsaw Tigers softball team padded their 4-0 lead over the Plymouth Pilgrims with a five-run sixth inning to move to 1-1 in the Northern Lakes Conference (NLC), and 3-3 overall with a 9-3 win at the Tiger Softball Complex Friday night.

Tigers sophomore pitcher Marisol Bowers carried a one-hit shut-out into the top of the seventh, but the Pilgrims had a three-run, two-hit mini rally, and Ally Gonzales retired the final two Plymouth batters in relief for a Tiger win showcasing solid defense, aggressive baserunning. and good pitching.

“Marisol did what she had to do,” Tiger head coach Kevin Dishman said. “Throw strikes, throw stuff that looked like strikes. We played excellent defense. Everybody played well tonight.”

Warsaw’s skipper is confident in what his squad can do at the plate, but consistent, solid defense is the key ingredient for assuring the Tigers keep winning.

“I was happy everyone got in to contribute,” Dishman said. “Whether it was running or defense, or just hitting the ball. I think we’re gonna take tomorrow off. We play seven games in six days next week.”

Warsaw’s dance card filled up for this coming week due to the rescheduling of two rainouts along with four regularly scheduled games.

The orange and black travel to NorthWood Monday, host Goshen Tuesday (make-up), travel to Northridge Wednesday, then host Columbia City, Concord, and Huntington North (double header) Thursday through Saturday.
