WINONA LAKE – Karlee Feldman erupted for 27 points as Grace College’s women’s basketball team defeated a tough IU East squad 78-66 in non-conference play Friday.

The game was Grace’s opener to the Hoops for Hope, an annual fundraiser to aid the Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund.

Grace used a strong second and fourth-quarter performance to pull away from the Red Wolves. Grace garnered 46 points in the paint, largely from Feldman and Kenzie McMahon (12 points).

IU East shot well from beyond the arc in the first quarter, but Grace kept pace by feeding Feldman in the post.

The Lady Lancers trailed by just four after the first quarter (20-16).

In the second quarter, Grace’s defense began to give the Red Wolves issues. IUE was held to 13 points in the frame, while Grace scored 22.

The Lady Lancers led 38-33 at halftime after making 10 field goals in the second quarter.

Feldman was hard to handle for the Red Wolves defensively as the post racked up 18 points before halftime. She shot 7 of 10 from the floor.

The score remained close throughout much of the second half. IU East outscored Grace by one point in the third quarter to pull within four.

But Grace enjoyed its best quarter in the fourth. The Lady Lancers pulled away late as Grace’s energy and defensive effort seemed to wear down the Red Wolves.

Grace shot 52 percent from the floor in the game, helping mask a 4-of-14 performance (29 percent) on 3-pointers and 14-of-30 performance (47 percent) on free throws.

Feldman had a double-double of 29 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks. She shot 13 of 21 overall.

Maddie Ryman tallied 14 points with three assists and three made 3-pointers, and McMahon added 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Kiersten Poor filled the stat sheet with 14 points, 9 boards and 4 assists, and Kaylee Patton added five assists and five boards.

The Lady Lancers’ next game is the start of the Crossroads League season. Grace will travel to Mt. Vernon Nazarene on Nov. 20 for a 1 p.m. matchup in Ohio.
