Grace has now scored 285 points over its first three victories, averaging 32.0 points per game more than their opponents.
Elijah Malone starred in the Lancers’ rout. The center shot 13 of 16 from the floor, producing 28 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocked shots in 29 minutes.
Grace flexed its muscles almost immediately into the game. The Lancers opened the game on a dominant 15-0 run. Malone powered the Lancers by scoring 11 of those 15 points.
The Saints (0-1) were unable to puncture Grace’s cushion as the Lancers continued to assert themselves on both ends of the court.
Malone was a force, nearly outscoring SHU by himself. He finished with 18 points as Grace led the Saints 47-23 at halftime.
Grace shot 63 percent from the floor while holding SHU to just 24 percent. The Saints also made just 2 of 12 (17 percent) on 3-pointers against Grace’s defense.
Thirty of Grace’s 47 points came in the paint, and 14 of those were the fastbreak variety.
Four minutes into the game, Grace still held a 24-point cushion. But the Saints had one last fight remaining.
SHU went on a 14-3 run over a five-minute period. Grace’s offense was plagued by turnovers, allowing the Saints to cut the Lancers’ lead to 13 with 11:23 remaining in the game.
But a well-placed timeout by Grace allowed the Lancers to regroup. Grace exploded out of the timeout with 10 unanswered points, highlighted by a dunk by Frankie Davidson and a triple from Carter Stoltzfus.
Grace continued to maintain a 20-point cushion for the rest of regulation. A late five-point spurt from Marcus Davidson pushed Grace to its final 29-point margin of victory.
Frankie Davidson amassed 21 points and six boards, and Jake Wadding added 11 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.
Eddie Gill IV produced 10 points, 4 steals and 3 assists, and Brycen Graber added nine assists.
Ian Scott had 6 points, 3 assists and 10 rebounds — his third straight game with at least 10 boards.
Grace finished the game by shooting 63 percent from the floor. The Lancers had 24 assists and a plus-eight advantage in rebounds.
The Lancers have one more game this week, playing at Oakland City on Thursday afternoon (4 p.m.). Next week, Grace will host the annual Hoops for Hope with Grace’s women’s team. Four games will be played on Friday with four more on Saturday at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center. The teams will use the tournament to raise funds to support the Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund.
