WINONA LAKE – The Center for Lakes & Streams at Grace College has announced the winners of the 2014 Wonderful Water Student Art Contest.
Each April, area fourth-  through twelfth-graders are invited to submit depiction of local waterways. Artists with winning entries receive cash prizes and have their artwork displayed in the community and featured in a calendar.
Artwork was judged on creativity, artistic merit, compatibility of any wildlife with its habitat and depiction of the theme. Judging was conducted by the Grace College Art Department, including students Becka Lukens, Schylar Miller, Brittany Salazar, Scott Schloss, Bryanna VanNostran and Elisa Yonge.
The contest included four categories: grades 4 and 5, 6 to 8, 9 and 10 and 11 and 12, with cash prizes in each category. With almost 600 pieces of art submitted, participation was nearly doubled from previous years.
A special award presentation for winners will be June 14 at the Northern Indiana Lakes Festival. For information on the festival, go to www.lakesfestival.org
Community members will have several opportunities to view the winning selections. The artwork will be displayed in Mt. Memorial Hall at Grace College until May 6 and in the lobby of the Warsaw City Office from May 15 to June 9.
The art contest is sponsored the City of Warsaw, Farmers State Bank, Hand Family Foundation, Kay Young-Todd Realty, Kosciusko Community Hospital, Lake City Bank, Lake Tippecanoe Property Owners, Louis Dreyfus Commodities, Medtronic, MutualBank, Northern Gases and Supplies, Silveus Insurance Group, The Papers and Tippecanoe Watershed Foundation.
