A Warsaw man was hospitalized Sunday after his vehicle, allegedly being driven by an unknown subject, struck a utility pole.
According to a Warsaw Police Department crash report, the vehicle was traveling southeast on North Lake Street in Warsaw around 3:14 a.m. Sunday, when it rounded a curve and for an unknown reason struck a curb, bouncing off and striking a utility pole. The vehicle appeared to have spun around, coming to a rest approximately 30 feet east of the utility pole.
The report stated the accident was called in to dispatch by a nearby resident. When officers arrived on the scene, there were no occupants inside or near the vehicle. The resident who called dispatch told police she observed the person in the car leave in another vehicle.
Officers then drove to Kosciusko Community Hospital where the hospital staff said that Bruce Kintzel, 23, South Julian Drive, Warsaw, was transported there by other individuals. They said Kintzel had extensive lacerations and abrasions to the face, possible internal injuries and swelling and redness to the right knee area.
Kintzel told officers that an unknown hispanic male was driving his car and fled the scene after the accident.
While speaking with Kintzel, the officer noticed a strong odor consistent with an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. A blood sample was taken at the hospital.
Estimated damage from the accident was between $10,000 and $25,000.
