The District 22 state representative election in the Republican May 6 primary has become a contentious race.
The Times-Union and Wagon Wheel Theatre have teamed up to sponsor a debate between the two candidates in that election: incumbent Rebecca Kubacki and challenger Curt Nisly.
Kubacki confirmed early this week to participate in the debate, but Nisly has not responded the request as of this morning.
We decided this would be the best way to give voters a chance to hear the candidates stake out their positions on issues relevant to the state legislature, and how those issue affect our community. The debate also would be streamed live over Oldies 98.3, WIOE, so all voters in the area could listen.
The debate would be conducted Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Wagon Wheel Theatre and moderated by Times-Union General Manager Gary Gerard.
We hope both candidates take this opportunity to further inform voters with regard to the upcoming election.
