A barn owned by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources caught fire Saturday night and was deemed a total loss. According to North Webster Fire Chief Jeremy Likens, North Webster Fire Department received the call at 9:46 p.m. Saturday. When fire personnel arrived at the scene, the barn, at 2687 N. CR 850E, Pierceton, was fully engulfed. Two smaller structures were also fully engulfed and several small field fires ignited along with a nearby corn field. Likens said it took around 45 minutes to control all the fires and the three structures were deemed a total loss. There were no occupants at the time of the blaze and the cause is still under investigation. Pierceton, Leesburg and Larwill fire departments and North Webster EMS assisted at the scene. Syracuse Fire Department was placed on standby.
