Kosciusko County Alcoholic Beverage Board approved three permit renewals Thursday and a fourth after verifying a fine had been paid.
Permits were renewed without violation for the Aloha Bar, Meijer 267 and Stacys Sports Inn. The board then renewed the alcohol permit for Marsh Drug 7056 after making sure that an Aug. 26 fine of $1,000 had been paid.
The fine resulted from two state statute violations made by a cashier during a visit from an undercover excise officer – failure to check ID and sale to a minor. Store manager Zach Helton told the board the fine was something that would be handled at the corporate level, but that to the best of his knowledge it had been paid.
“If they want to be that tight-lipped, they can pay their corporate attorneys to be here,” remarked state excise Lt. John Folk. He placed a call during the meeting and confirmed that the fine had been paid in December.
He also advised Helton that adherence to the ID checking law would reduce the chances of a repeat violation, and that proper training would help employees protect themselves and the store.
