SILVER LAKE – A 4-year-old Claypool boy was killed in Silver Lake when he was hit by a truck Wednesday.
According to a press release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, officers and emergency personnel responded Wednesday at 1:42 p.m. to a 911 report of a truck/pedestrian crash in front of the Sand’s Mini-Mart gas station on Ind. 15, Silver Lake. Kosciusko County Coroner Michael Wilson was summoned to the scene and pronounced Logan R. Heeter, 4, Claypool, deceased at the scene from blunt force trauma.
Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team members stated that a preliminary investigation of the crash determined that Heeter had attempted to cross the street from the west side of Ind. 15. Travis A. Woodcock, 25, Louisville, Kentucky, had been driving a 2001 Freightliner flatbed truck southbound when he suddenly saw Heeter enter into his path. Woodcock attempted to brake and swerve but could not avoid striking Heeter.
Kosciusko County FACT was assisted at the scene by the Silver Lake Police Department, Silver Lake Fire Department, Life-Med EMS and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
The crash is still currently under investigation, according to the release.
