Verna L. Torpy WABASH – Verna L. Torpy, 66, Silver Lake, went to be with her Lord at 6:10 a.m. Aug. 29, 2014, in her residence. She was born Sept. 30, 1947, in Waco, Texas, to Joseph C. and Minnie Leona Markle Nawara. On Jan. 28, 1977, she married Max E. Torpy, who survives. She worked many years in financial institutions and retired from the loan operations department at Lake City Bank, Warsaw, in 2010. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Wabash. She graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School, Rosenburg, Texas, in 1965. She enjoyed quilting, reading and collecting notebooks. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a great cook, fabulous wife, mother and grandma. She was a member of the Lady’s Guild at her church that made quilts for babies and veterans and a member of a ladies home ec club. She was an amazing lady that will be sorely missed. Also surviving are a son, Bret A. (and spouse Ann) Torpy, Burket; a daughter, Shannon M. (and spouse Greg) Brazo, Burket; a brother, James (and spouse Janie) Nawara, New Ulm, Texas; five grandchildren: ShaNell, Alexis and Morgan Brazo and Raechel and Jaxon Torpy. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Nila Miller and Bettye Meyer. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, 173 Hale Drive, Wabash, with the Rev. Jeremy Yeadon officiating. Burial is in Funk Cemetery, Bippus. Calling is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, 173 Hale Drive, Wabash.
