Mildred R. Frantz, 96, Warsaw, passed away at 1:40 p.m. Aug. 2, 2014, in The Hearth at Sycamore Village, Fort Wayne.
She was born Oct. 13, 1917, in Bluffton, to Theophilus and Mary Louise Tillman Gavin. On Dec. 24, 1942, in Louisville, Ky., she married Donald E. Frantz, who preceded her in death Nov. 7, 2012.
After living in Bluffton and Vincennes, she moved to Warsaw in 1958. She was an elementary school teacher, teaching at Liberty Center, Wells County, Vincennes and Warsaw schools, retiring in 1980. She was a graduate of Ball State Teachers College in 1937.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Warsaw, where she was involved with the choir and Women’s Circle. Her memberships included Mobile Meals; chairman, community concerts; Live and Learn Homemaker Club; County Choral Club, retiring in 1996; Zerelda Reading Club; Salvation Army Auxiliary; and Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Alice Garrett,  and her son, James Richard (and spouse Nanette) Frantz, all of Warsaw; three granddaughters: Stephanie (and spouse Jim) McDairmant and Olivia (and spouse Dan) Coons, all of Warsaw; and Jennifer (and spouse Justin) Smith, Fort Wayne; four great-grandchildren: Darby, Andon, Olivia and Wyatt; her niece, Beverly Fort, Nashville. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Gavin.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 15 at First United Methodist Church, Warsaw, with pastors Scott Carmer and Bill Wood officiating. Burial is in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is two hours prior to services Aug. 15 at the church.
McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
