BLUFFTON – Hershel A. Schwartz, 89, Bluffton, passed away at 4:28 p.m. Aug. 18, 2014, at River Terrace Estates.
He was born Jan. 19, 1925, in Zanesville, to Glen A. and Ethel Motz Schwartz. On July 1, 1946, in Zanesville, he married LaVerta Oldfield, who preceded him in death Jan. 30, 2013.
He was owner of Schwartz Motors, the former John W. Gallman dealership, in Bluffton for 30 years. He was a 1943 graduate of East Union High School and attended First Church of Christ.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 and was a member of American Legion Post #111, Bluffton.
He loved his family and enjoyed fishing.
Surviving are his daughter, Cynthia (and spouse James) DeHoff, Markle; a son, Robert (and spouse Diana) Schwartz, Syracuse; three grandchildren: James (and spouse Angie) DeHoff; Jeff (and spouse Candas) DeHoff; and Lindsay (and spouse Vince) Beasley; and five great-grandchildren. He is the last of his family.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel, Bluffton, with Larry Sprinkle officiating. Burial is in Hoverstock Cemetery, Zanesville, with military honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and American legion Post #111.
