Ethel Mae Barnett, 88, passed away at 1:50 p.m. Aug. 22, 2014, at Elmcroft of Xenia, Ohio.
She was born April 17, 1926, in Fort Wayne, to Shirley Elery and Beatrice Vernon Barto Shaneyfelt.
She spent most of her life in Warsaw.
She was a graduate of Central High School, Fort Wayne, and she attended Fort Wayne Bible Institute. She earned her registered nursing degree after graduating from South Chicago Community Hospital School of Nursing. She received her bachelor’s degree from Grace College and a master’s degree in counseling from University of St. Francis, Fort Wayne.
She was a registered nurse within the Warsaw Community School System and an industrial nurse for Zimmer. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Pierceton. She had a servant’s heart in all she did including activities within the churches she attended over the years, the many short-term mission trips she went on, the ways she worked with Christian ministries – one of which included volunteering with Lakeland Child Evangelism Ministries. She went on several mission trips to Russia with the Josh McDowell Ministry.
She enjoyed knitting and crocheting items and making Gospel bracelets for various ministries; she made totes from strips of shopping bags which she shared. She was always available to help care for the elderly, from baking muffins to helping attend to their personal needs.
Surviving are a daughter, Debra Wilson, Xenia; four grandchildren: Nate (and spouse Angie) Wilson, Columbus, Ohio; Micah (and spouse Amanda) Wilson, Rebekah Wilson (and fiance Matt Craig), Rachel Wilson (and fiance Samuel Stevenson), all of Xenia. She was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Marc Barnett, who died June 22, 1977; two brothers, Robert and Wayne Shaneyfelt; five sisters: Dorothy Paxson, Betty Williams, Mildred Sitcler, infants Patricia Ruth and Mary Helen Shaneyfelt; and a son-in-law, Pastor Rick Wilson, who died July 12, 2013.
Services will be at noon Friday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor Paul Craig, Grace Covenant Church, Beavercreek, Ohio, officiating. Burial is in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
