The Warsaw girls track and field team got its quest for a ninth-straight Northern Lakes Conference championships started right Wednesday night at NorthWood.
In the three-team conference meet, Warsaw dismantled host NorthWood 112.66-19.33 and also handed Concord a 97-35 defeat.
Of the 16 events, Warsaw finished first in 11 of them, with no individual winning more than one.
Individually, Warsaw received first-place finishes from Claire Hickerson (pole vault, 9-6), Samantha Alexander (long jump, 15-7.5), Brooklyn Harrison (shot put, 36-3.5), Ann Harvuot (100, 12.78), Allison Miller (1600, 5:25.46), Hannah Dawson (400, 1:03.51), Anna Craig (800, 2:26.27), Audrey Rich (200, 26.09) and Brooke Rhodes (3200, 12:29.63).
Also for Warsaw, its 4x800 relay of Mallory Hooks, Charlene Orr, Lauren Orr and Hannah Thompson won in 10:57.97 and its 4x400 relay of Mariah Harter, Alexander, Rich and Harvuot won in 50.32.
The Lady Tigers are in another three-team NLC meet Tuesday at Northridge with Wawasee.

Wednesday in Ossian
At Class 3A, No. 2 Norwell Wednesday, the Whitko baseball team lost a 6-4 decision. The Wildcats led 4-2 after four innings, but surrendered four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Whitko's Ethan Nicodemus pitched four innings, getting the no decision. The 5-1 Wildcats host Churubusco Friday.

Giving up six runs in the opening inning Wednesday at Homestead, the Manchester baseball team went on to lose 11-0 in five innings. Manchester got just one hit in the loss, with that being achieved by Branden Scott. The Squires are back on the diamond Friday at home against Eastern.

Hosting a three-team Northern State Conference match Wednesday at Rozella Ford Golf Club, the Triton boys golf team picked up a pair of wins. Shooting a 174, Triton outdid LaVille’s 180 and Bremen’s 187. LaVille’s Zach Gurtner had the low score of 38 on the par-35 course, while Triton’s Tanner Shepherd posted a 40. The Trojans are in NSC action again today, travelling to Culver.

In their second game of the season, the Warsaw softball team held a 4-0 lead after four innings at Carroll, but went on to lost 14-4. In defeat, Sidney Hernandez, Kaleigh Speicher and Kaitlyn Williams each had two hits. The 0-2 Lady Tigers are at East Noble tonight.

Travelling to Tippecanoe Valley Wednesday night, the Triton softball team breezed to a 12-0, five-inning victory. Triton hammered out 14 hits in the win, as Halie Zimmerman was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a double. For Valley, Danielle Adams had two of the team's three hits. Valley hosts Winamac tonight and Triton's next contest is Saturday morning at home against Wawasee.
