AKRON — The Tippecanoe Valley baseball team earned a split during its doubleheader against defending Class 4A state champion Elkhart Central.
After losing the first game 13-3 in the five innings, the Tippecanoe Valley Vikings bounced for a 15-3 five-inning win of its own against the Elkhart Central Blue Blazers.
In Game 1, Isaac Shewman went 2 for 3, while scoring a run, along with Gavin Bussard and Alec Craig.
Getting back on the field in Game 2, the Vikings hammered out 18 hits, led by three each from Bussard, Craig and Luke Helton, with one of Helton’s being a home run.
Helton had four RBIs in the victory, as did Shewman and Tommy Alexander finished with three.
Eric Hammer was the Game 2 winner, going 3-2/3 innings, striking out seven and allowing three hits.
The 1-2 Vikings host Triton today, then travel to Warsaw for a Wednesday contest.
