SYRACUSE — The Manchester High School boys tennis team opened its season with a convincing 5-0 win Monday at Wawasee.
In the season opener for each team, the Squires were only forced to three sets at No. 2 doubles.
On the singles courts, Connor Eichenauer won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1, Max Karg was a 6-1, 6-0 victor at No. 2 and Brayton Spann came out on top at No. 3, 6-0, 6-3.
The Squires’ No. 1 doubles team of Noah Cain and Branden Scott also posted a two-set victory (6-0, 6-2), while Matthew Pegg and Heath Dierks did go three, dropping the opening set 6-3 against Brayton Fretz and Derek Stutzman, but going on to win the next two 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
Manchester opens its home season Wednesday against West Noble, and Wawasee’s next competition is also Wednesday at home against Lakeland.

DOUBLES: No. 1 – Noah Cain/Branden Scott (M) def. Jake Hutchinson/Nate Haines 6-0, 6-2; No. 2 – Matthew Pegg/Heath Dierks (M) def. Brayton Fretz/Derek Stutzman 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
