AKRON — In a three-team, Three Rivers Conference meet at Tippecanoe Valley Monday, the Whitko boys and girls each picked up two wins.
In the boys meet, Whitko generated 73 points, followed by Valley’s 55 and North Miami’s 25.
The Lady Wildcats also put some distance between themselves and second place, scoring 75 points, while Valley had 49 and North Miami posted 29.
For the Whitko boys, Blake Sapp won the 300 hurdles and high jump, while Cole Eberly (110 hurdles), Derek Miller (1600), Josh Wright (3200) and Zach Hewitt (discus) also picked up first-place wins, as did its 4x800 relay.
Valley was led by Michael Thacker’s wins in the 100 and 200.
Also winning for the Vikings were Nolan Sponseller (400), Noah Clampitt (800) and its 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
For the Lady Wildcats, freshman Kaitlyn Reed was the catalyst, winning the 100 and high jump, while also placing third at shot put.
Also garnering first-place finishes for the Whitko girls were Brigit Nemitz (1600), Elaine Warner (300 hurdles), Abby Overmeyer (200), Michelle Kelsey (3200), Taylor Zwick (long jump) and Dana Hobbs (discus), as well as its 4x100 relay.
In their second-place finish, Valley won the 4x400 relay and 4x800 relay, as well as getting individual victories from Alaina O’Connell (100 hurdles), Jazzmine Brown (400) and Hailee Hunsberger (shot put).
All three teams will be back at Valley Thursday for the TRC Championships.

Monday in Nappanee
At NorthWood Monday, the Wawasee baseball team was within 2-1 going into the bottom of the sixth, but gave up three runs and went on to lose in a 5-1. Gage Fannin went 5-1/3 innings in the Northern Lakes Conference loss, while Drew Anderson was 1 for 1 at the plate, hitting a double and driving in a run. The 7-12 (2-8 NLC) Warriors host an NLC game Wednesday when Northridge comes to town.

Monday in Wabash
The Whitko baseball team dropped a Three Rivers Conference game at Northfield Tuesday, 11-2. Northfield had 11 hits in the win, including three doubles and a triple. Whitko also post three doubles, which were hit by Ethan Nicodemus, Tanner Hughes and Landen Goff. The win kept Northfield in a tie for first place in the TRC at 3-1, while Whitko dropped to 2-2 and 14-7 overall. Whitko is at Wabash Wednesday for another TRC tilt.

Penn picked up the two wins with a 151, while Wawasee shot a 158 and LaVille finished with a 169. Jeffrey Moore led Wawasee with a 37 and Cal Heinisch shot a 39. The Warriors are at Stonehenge Country Club today to take on Warsaw in their Northern Lakes Conference opener.

Monday in Plymouth
The Warsaw softball team posted a 6-4 Northern Lakes Conference victory at Plymouth Monday. Scoring five runs in the top of the first, Warsaw gave itself a big enough cushion to improve to 6-11 overall and 5-5 in the NLC. Kaleigh Speicher got the win in the circle, striking out six in five innings of work. Offensively, Alexa Glass was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Karly Jones hit a double. The Lady Tigers are back in NLC play Wednesday at home against NorthWood.

Monday in Syracuse
The Wawasee softball team avenged an earlier season loss to NorthWood, Monday in Syracuse. On April 25, Wawasee lost 3-1 at NorthWood, but in the rematch, the host Lady Warriors got the 5-2 victory, improving to 15-7 and 6-4 in the Northern Lakes Conference. Freshman Amber Lemberg pitched Wawasee to the win, striking out 10 in the complete-game effort, giving up just four hits and one walk. Like NorthWood’s offense, Wawasee’s also had four hits against NorthWood pitcher Taylor Troxel, with junior Alli Ousley getting two of them and scoring two runs. Wawasee is back in NLC action Wednesday at Class 4A No. 6 Northridge Wednesday.

At home against Bremen Monday, the Triton softball team fell 7-5 in Northern State Conference play. Bremen’s Chelsea Huppert struck out nine Lady Trojans in six innings, although they did get 12 hits, with Mallorie Jennings, Hannah Jennings, Janae Kreft and Allyson Brown each getting two. In defeat, Mallorie Jennings pitched seven innings, with only one of the seven runs being earned, as the Triton defense committed six errors. Triton now sits at 15-5 on the season and 6-3 in the NSC, while Bremen improved to 13-7 and 10-0 in the conference. Triton is at LaVille Wednesday for another NSC contest.

The Wawasee girls tennis team was able to get an individual win at Plymouth Monday, but dropped the team match 4-1. At No. 1 singles, Wawasee’s Katy Ashpole got a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Plymouth freshman Erin Hunter, but that was the team’s only highlight, as it only won three sets on the other four courts. The loss leaves Wawasee at 2-9 overall and wraps up its NLC campaign at 0-7. Up next for the Lady Warriors is the NLC Championships, which begins Wednesday at Warsaw and runs through Friday.

The win improved Manchester’s record to 10-4, while Valley fell to 2-8. The next TRC match for each team is Monday, as Manchester travels to Southwood and Valley will be at Northfield.
