ELKHART — Returning to the site where it recorded one of the program’s biggest victories two years ago, the Warsaw volleyball team did it again Thursday night at Elkhart Memorial.
Two years ago, Warsaw rallied from a 2-1 hole to win a five-game thriller, ending Memorial’s 76-match win streak in Northern Lakes Conference play.
Thursday night, the Lady Tigers once again fell behind 2-1, but fought back to get the five-game victory.
Improving to 6-1 overall and getting the inside track to an NLC title at 1-0, the Warsaw Lady Tigers defeated Memorial 25-16, 22-25, 20-25, 25-17, 17-15.
Both teams will take part in Saturday’s Mishawaka Invitational, which will be held at John Young Middle School.

Thursday in Goshen
The Wawasee volleyball team didn’t have much trouble at Bethany Christian Thursday, getting a three-game sweep, 25-15, 25-21, 25-17. Alli Ousley had 20 assists and Aly Anderson posted 20 digs in the win, with Addison Ayres leading the way with nine kills. The 5-4 Lady Warriors will be at Manchester Tuesday.

In their Three Rivers Conference opener Thursday, the Tippecanoe Valley volleyball team recorded a three-game sweep at Wabash, 25-19, 25-16, 25-16. Senior Caylie Teel had 13 kills, three blocks and two aces, while Abby Betten had seven kills and Madison Henninger 13 assists. Valley now sits at 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference and will be at Saturday’s Manchester Invitational.

Facing Goshen and Northridge at Maplecrest Country Club Thursday in Goshen, the Warsaw girls golf team opened its Northern Lakes Conference season with a pair of wins. Warsaw got the dual wins by shooting a 191, putting plenty of distance between itself and the competition, as Goshen shot a 226 and Northridge posted a 231. Warsaw’s Alexis Manwaring was the top performer, finishing with a 43, while Northridge’s Emily Thomas (45) and the Lady Tigers’ Ash Jain (47) and Page Desenberg (49) were the only other girls to break 50. Warsaw faces two more NLC opponents when it travels to Syracuse Tuesday to take on Wawasee and Concord at Maxwelton Golf Club.

Hosting three teams at Sycamore Golf Club Thursday, the Manchester girls golf team went 3-0. Shooting a 194 on their home course, the Lady Squires downed North Miami (211), Whitko (234) and Tippecanoe Valley (239). On the par-36 front nine, Manchester’s Claire Barnett had the low score of 39, while Valley was led by Liz VanMeter’s 52 and Whitko was paced by Elizabeth Gensch’s 48. All three local teams are back in action Tuesday, as Manchester and Whitko are back at Sycamore, along with West Noble, while Valley hosts Rochester and Maconaquah at Round Barn Golf Club.

Alex Doll supplied the match’s lone goal, scoring off an assist from Luis Camargo, while Korey Knafel posted the shutout in goal.
