DUNLAP — The Warsaw baseball team improved its Northern Lakes Conference record to 5-1 Friday night in Dunlap.
Hitting the road to take on Concord, the Warsaw Tigers returned home with a 7-1, moving its overall record to 8-4.
Kevin Hawley went the distance for the Tigers, allowing just five hits and two walks, while striking out three.
Offensively, Warsaw was efficient, scoring its seven runs on seven hits, with Justin Oberlin, Brandon Shipp and Dean Katris each posting two hits.
Shipp led the team with three RBIs and a double, with Katris getting a solo home run.
The Tigers host a doubleheader today against Valparaiso, beginning at 11 a.m.

In Northern Lakes Conference play Friday, the Wawasee baseball team fell at home to Goshen, 5-3. Drew Anderson had two hits and two runs in the loss, which drops Wawasee to 5-9 overall and 0-6 in the conference. The Warriors will look for its first NLC win Monday at Concord.

The Warsaw softball team suffered its fifth-straight loss and third Northern Lakes Conference setback of the week Friday night at the Tigers Athletic Complex. After taking a 1-0 lead on Concord, the Lady Tigers fell behind 11-1 before putting four on the board in the bottom of the seventh. Falling to 3-9 on the year, Kaleigh Speicher hit a seventh-inning grand slam for the Lady Tigers, her third homer of the year and second in two games. The Lady Tigers host Elkhart Memorial, Monday.

After defeating LaVille 21-3 Thursday night, the Triton softball team was even rougher at Culver Friday, getting a 30-1 win in five innings. Hammering out 24 hits, Hannah Jennings had two doubles, while Mallorie Jennings, Krystal Sellers and Janae Kreft each had one and Allyson Brown hit a triple. The win improves Triton to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the Northern State Conference. The Lady Trojans are at today’s NorthWood Invitational.

The Warsaw girls tennis team picked up its second win in two nights Friday, defeating Fort Wayne Concordia 4-1 at home. Warsaw swept the singles courts, with Jacqueline Sasso winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, Sarah Boyle 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 and Rachel Alexander 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. On the doubles courts, Warsaw’s Abbi Baum and Athena Schlitt were victorious at No. 2 doubles. The Lady Tigers are at Homestead, Monday.
