NEW CARLISLE — The Triton boys and girls basketball teams each got wins Tuesday at New Prairie, advancing in the TCU Bi-County Tournament.
In first-round action of the tournament, the Triton girls took to the court first, getting a 55-49 victory over the hosting Lady Cougars.
A balanced scoring attack led the Lady Trojans to the victory, as senior Taylor Hatfield posted 14, followed by sophmore Jaela Meister’s 11 and junior Kylie Mason’s 10.
Up next were the boys, who had lost at New Prairie 56-54 earlier this season, but held the Cougars to 11 points between the second and third quarters in a commanding 57-40 victory.
Senior Tanner Shepherd had 26 points in the Trojan victory on 8-of-13 shooting from the field and junior Joey Corder had eight rebounds, four assists and four blocks off the bench.
The Lady Trojans advance to Thursday’s semifinals at LaVille High School against Class 1A No. 10 Culver, a team they defeated 41-34 Friday night, at 6:30 p.m.
The Triton boys will now face John Glenn, a team they lost to 46-38 earlier this season, on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. in the semifinals at LaVille High School.

The Lakeland Christian Academy boys basketball team picked up its first victory of the season Tuesday at Granger Christian, 50-41. Chris Silveus and Jon Harmon each netted 13 points for the Cougars, while Connor Blum posted 12 points and six rebounds. The 1-12 Cougars travel to Victory Christian Saturday.

At West Noble Tuesday night, the Wawasee gymnastics team nabbed a 96.325-72.9 victory. Wawasee’s Emily Allen was the top all-around performer with 33.425 points, winning the vault (8.65), uneven bars (8.175) and floor (8.65), while finishing second to teammate Taylor Busse (8.6) on the balance beam (7.95). The Lady Warriors travel to Warsaw Tuesday.

Taking first place in every event but the opening 200 medley relay, the Tippecanoe Valley girls swim team picked up a 103-71 win at Wabash Monday night. Individually, Kate Gunter (200 IM, 100 fly), Sydney Schaeffer (50 free, 100 free) and Alaina O’Connell (500 free, 100 breast) each won two events, then joined Joy Hurd on the victorious 200 free relay and 400 free relay.
