SYRACUSE – Senior Gage Fannin came through for the Wawasee Warriors again.
A game after his sacrifice fly lifted Wawasee to a 4-3 win over Warsaw, Fannin hit a walkoff double in the eighth inning Friday, as the Warriors outlasted the Elkhart Memorial Crimson Chargers 7-6.
With the scored tied 5-5 after seven innings, Elkhart Memorial scored one run in the top of the eighth, while the Warriors responded with a pair for the victory.
With the win, Wawasee is now 7-10 overall and 2-7 in Northern Lakes Conference play.
Junior Brett Carson had three hits for the Warriors, while juniors Drew Wright and Nate Prescott had two hits each.
Wright pounded out a triple in the win, while Prescott had a double.
Fannin was credited with the win on the mound after working 2/3 of an inning. He struck out one and didn’t walk any.
The Warriors are in action again today when they host Fort Wayne Concordia.

Friday in Elkhart
Wawasee’s varsity softball team scored four runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings Friday en route to a 4-0 win at Northern Lakes Conference foe Elkhart Memorial. Alli Ousley, Danielle Gunkle and Cristina DeLaFuente had two hits each for the Lady Warriors, who pounded out 11 hits to Memorial’s four. Both of Ousley’s hits were doubles. Wawasee is scheduled to play in the Eastside Classic today.
