SYRACUSE – Broadway favorites are coming to the Wawasee High School auditorium when the choral department presents its 2014 pops show “Show Tunes” May 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m.
The annual event includes song, dance costumes, special effects and lighting, comedy and laughter, according to a press release provided by Director of Choirs Connie Meadows.
The music included in the concert pays homage to some of the oldies but goodies in American Broadway theater, movies and television.
The first half of the show will feature songs such as “Anything You Can Do” from “Annie Get Your Gun”; “Close Every Door” from “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”; “Defying Gravity” from “Wicked”; and “Footloose” from “Footloose,” among others.
In the second half, songs will include the show choir, Vocal Motion, singing and dancing to “Green Eggs and Ham” from the fairly new musical “Seussical,” with special appearances by Dr. Seuss characters. Other featured numbers will be “The Song of Purple Summer” from “Spring Awakening”; “I Dreamed a Dream” from “Les Miserables”; “For the First Time in Forever” from “Frozen”; and “The New Girl in Town” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from “Hairspray.”
Choreographers for the show are Veronica Runyon and Amanda Bradley. Costumes and set were designed and made by Deb Sweazy. Ken Strong produced the lighting, new video and special effects.
Emcees for the show are Bradley, Tiarra Culp, Kaylee Nelson and Ethan Wright.
Tickets may be purchased from any choir student or by calling the high school at 574-457-3147. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 12 and under.
Seating is reserved.
