New reserve officers to the Pierceton Police Department are Tiffany Fulk and Nathan Rhoades. Town Marshal is Tim Sammons.
Groundbreaking for the Crosson Mill Veterans Memorial, Syracuse, spearheaded by American Legion Post 223, was held July 12. The memorial will include a brick base, a large clock and several flags.     
Rebecca Benjamin, 10, daughter of Bryan and Marie Benjamin, will be giving a violin recital Sunday at Grace Village Retirement Center featuring Suzuki Violin Book Six.

On July 9 in Mobile, Ala., Wendy Rust, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Rust, Bourbon, will be up against 49 other young women representing their state in the 1989 America’s Young Woman of the Year competition, formerly known as the National Junior Miss Competition. Rust was named Indiana’s Junior Miss in February after emerging locally as Triton’s Junior Miss. She graduated from Triton High School this year.
Workers using cutting torches to tear down the Korth Building on North Park Avenue ignited a fire in the insulation Saturday afternoon. Warsaw firefighters were called and returned twice later that night when the fire rekindled.
Volunteers cleared the Winona Lake Canal of weeds and debris which had become so thick that boat passage was difficult.

Radio stations WRSW AM-FM have just completed installation of a 25,000-watt emergency power generator which will guarantee area listeners continuing information during periods of emergency, power failure, storms, etc. In repeated tests over the past two weeks, it has been determined that WRSW can be back on the air in less than three minutes during a power failure. Robert Krause, transmitter engineer, and Frederick Gresso, chief engineer, displayed the generator and voltage control.
Lewis Immel, superintendent of the Lakeland Community School Corp., announced that Milton Brice had been named principal of Syracuse High School.
Harry Kyler smacked a grand-slam home run to give the Sidney Wildcats a 7-4 win over Milford in county high school baseball. Tom Leiter had two of Sidney’s five hits.

A select all-star Mentone pugball team was the first to make official bid for Warsaw’s 1939 softball laurels, it was announced by league and association president Paul Bilby. George Phillips was appointed recording secretary by the board. City crews are busy filling in both infield and outfield with dirt and an extra fine surface of clay over infield spots. New baseshave arrived as well as a half gross of new balls. Bleachers and backstops have been repaired. Teams ready to play are Nipsco, Craftsmen, Elks, Barringer’s, WPA, Tippecanoe Lake, Playtime Products and Frauhiger’s.
