The top two students at Triton High School are Jenna Thomas, daughter of Victoria and the late Walter Thomas, Etna Green, valedictorian, and Jeanna Collins, daughter of Gary and Rose Collins, Bourbon, salutatorian. Both were on the all-A honor roll each grading period this year and are Hoosier Scholar Award winners.
Sarah Marty, daughter of Dave and Mary Marty, Syracuse, is valedictorian at Wawasee High School; Sarah Becker is salutatorian. The girls were in the National Honor Society and the Academic Hall of Fame.
First-grade essay winners watch as Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins mans the shovel at a time capsule ceremony this morning on the east side of the courthouse. The students were given a tour and treated to Pizza Hut for lunch.

Greg Steffe, Warsaw, started building his replica of the 1920s Sells-Wallace Circus about five years ago in the basement of his home, growing larger and more complex as time passes. His model circus is built at 1/2-inch scale (1/2 inch represents one foot). Using plastic, wood, epoxy “or whatever,” he fashions his wagons, animals and people figures after original prototypes of the 1920s-era circus. He also has some mechanized stunts. Steffe is a member of the National Circus Model Builders Association, traveling throughout the country, displaying his circus to people.
Wal-Mart is now open. Warsaw store manager Paul Lehotsky cut the ribbon June 1 at the new store on US 30E.

Laboratory examination at Indiana University of a skeleton found on the old Eberly farm northeast of North Webster April 6 has revealed the shooting of an Indian more than 130 years ago. The last Indians left the Kosciusko County area between 1835 and 1838.
Charles Barrett, Claypool, caught a 7-pound, 6-ounce largemouth bass in Winona Lake. He caught the fish on a “spoon,” and plans to have it mounted.
Mary Kathryn Evans, daughter of Stan Evans, Warsaw, was among five Iowa State University students who gave a concert of sacred music April 18.

Mama Detterman, Ben’s mother, sent the Indiana University football and track star-to-be a pretty cake for his birthday. He’ll be 19 March 26. He was a Warsaw High School basketball player and now is a frosh at I.U. this year.
Virginia Mellencamp, daughter of Fred Mellencamp, Warsaw, was chosen for a leading role in DePauw University’s play “George and Margaret.”
P.D. Parks rounded up his Sunday School class of young people in the Presbyterian Church basement where numerous games were played. John Edwards exposed a clever shell game trick; Esther Bales won a mental test; Margaret Howard staggered the company by her sword swallowing feat.
